The Library is open to the public. Library use and book lending are available free of cost. Most of the Textbooks and core groups of the scientific collection are arranged free-hand.

Applying for a library card
In order to use the library you will need a library card. Please fill in, print out and sign the form here, then hand it in at the library main desk!
Applying for access to archived holdings
Access to archived holdings is by written application only. Please print out,
fill in, sign and submit the appropriate form, giving details of the titles you
would like to consult.
Joining the Library
In order to start borrowing you need a library card. You can print out the application form free of charge using one of the computers in the library. Hand in the completed form and your ID card at the desk.
In accordance with the Georg Eckert Institute’s regulations we charge a € 5,00 fee for the library card. The card is valid for one year and can be renewed free of charge when you show your ID card.
Books (with the exception of reference-only inventory) can, as a rule, be borrowed for 4 weeks. Journals are not borrowable. A personal identification card or a passport are required to borrow materials.

You can reserve books that are currently on loan in the online catalogue. You will receive a message as soon as these books are available.
The books will be put aside for you for one week. You can cancel reservations online.
In accordance with § 23 of the library's regulations and § 1 and § 2 of the fees regulations, € 2.00 per item will be charged for the first reminder for any items not returned within the loan period. The failure to return items following an initial reminder will incur a further charge of € 5.00 and € 10.00 respectively for the second and third reminders for each item.
The Library is associated with Inter-library lending (Bibliothekssigel BS 78).
A copier is available for library users. The price pro copy is € 0,05 (DIN-A 4) and € 0,10 (DIN-A 3).
In addition to this, book scanners are available for use free of cost.
There are PCs with Internet Access on the library premises for research purposes. Personal laptops can be connected to the network and WLAN infrastructure.
We offer guided tours and work opportunities for groups and school classes upon request and prior notice.
